Laptop reviews.

October 22, 2006

I got my new laptop. It a Dell Laptop E1705 (the same chasis of E9400, which is available in india too.) The specifications are …

The goods:

The processor: Intel core duo T2250 1.73 GHz 2Mb L2 cache.

The Ram: Its 512mb * 2 at 533 MHz (that means its 1 GB)

The harddisk: This is where I compromised, its a 60gb 5400 SATA

The Graphics Card: Thats what I had paid full attention, its an nVidia GeForce Go 7900 GS. (read about it, its aweosme)

The Screen: Its a 17″ with truelife and all. The native resolution is 1900*1200. the clariy is out of this world. You can see clearly with angles exceeding 45 also.

Other stuff: There is an onboard woofer and sexy speakers. The keyboard is amazing too. Its very very soft and its a delight to type on it. The touchpad is good too. I havent used any laptop before, so cant really compare.

There is this thing called Media Direct. Its a pretty cool thing. Its like a small OS that can be used to do all the entertainment things. Its faster to boot compared to the windows OS.

The Bads.

Dell SUCKS: All the software that dell loads the laptop with before shipping, it can make any supercomputer be as fast as my watch. The things were so bad that i had to reformat it as soon as i got it.

Its HOT: The graphics card is a little too much for the laptop. it does get a little hot when you use it. If you put it on the bed and block all the heatsink fans, it does get a little too hot.

Its heavy: Well, this i knew from before. But Its ok. I guess all the muscles will help now :p
I still havnt tried any games on it. I plan to do that as soon as I go back from my home. And I am sure that it will be aawesome too :)

the pics .. u can check the net for the same. I will put one pic that i took.

Other things.

I installed VISTA on it. The operating system rocks. Sadly the display drivers werent working for it, so i had to install XP as well.

Windows media player 11 is good too. It looks good.pic 1pic 2 ..installing VISTA

PS: Now you all know who I am.

Happy Diwali

October 18, 2006

Diwali is finally here and so is the time to go home. It has been a wonderfull two and a half months that I have spent as a working individual (though the working part is minimal).

We’ve (me and flatmates) have had LOADs of fun in this time. We have had booze, cricket matches, volleyball sessions, discussions with people living around .. and much more. I dont know why people say that life sucks after you join the corporate world. It has been (and I think I can speak for many here) that life has been absolute fun till now.

Diwali (coming back to topic) also means long lost friends coming together and enemies shaking hands and becoming friends (class 5 hindi essay??). Its good to see that the batch has finally taken the birthday wishing part well. It was good to see people from “rival gangs” wishing a happy birthday. I maynot be that right about this part but at least the wishing mail is helping people wish and that too without having to open the orkut scrapbook.

Diwali also marks for all the gifts that are given. Its good to know that Manik (chaos) gifted his parents a car. I guess everyone should learn a lesson from that. Though the gift was a little before diwali, but, well, at least he gave the gift. WHAT ARE YOU GIVING YOUR PARENTS?

Office is fun too. Though nothing that special about the diwali thing here. Its good to be working in a young team where almost everyone is bachelor and everyone is a BTech and not a matka.

Chalo, I shall take a leave now. Take care.

Happy diwali.

Time continues ..

October 11, 2006

Continuing the talk about Time, well, the past four years have changed another lot too. Our batch has become from a bunch of kids to tad professionals. From being slogs to respected individuals working some
huge names. Names? Yahoo, nVidia, Google, Microsoft, T I, Sarnoff. It has been a pleasure to have know such people and to be a part of such an awesome institute.

I salute you all!!
Coming back to the present time, I have heard that the Institutes new placement officer is acting weird? I have heard about some weird “all company” written exam. Well, I think he doesnt know that all those who clear the written are not able to clear the interview and all those who dont do well in one written, arent bad for some company. I guess the college is going in the wrong hands now. Or should I say, it already has.

I have heard about the college football team. Its good to have our teams finally going somewhere other than programming contests and conferences. Sports in IIIT can improve a lot too. Needless to say, its all in faculty’s hands. I am happy to say that despite the small support that sports have in the administrative of the college, PDs have been managing well. Alas, who am I to say. College is growing, and I guess the extra-curricular things will get better as the institutes reputation increases. Because, for all that I know, a prof. had kept classes on the first day of felicity. I shall not take names here, but that shows how one-track mind those people have.

Other news, job is going great. flat mates have all gone crazy (inc. me) and its fun.

Time is valuable .

Things time changes .. in a matter of few years!!

1. The hottest and the most talked about girl in your school batch is no longer is “thought” about. She has lost somewhere in the whirls of time. The “mean girls” gang of your school is all but mean now. The people who you used to look upto are no longer even half of your position. How the girl that you asked out in your school time, and rejected you saying “i have to concentrate on my studies” is now in Bangalore looking for a job. And simply cracking the written for TCS made her life. How one person who looked like a macho guy is now sad and silent. Looking for an opportunity to start his own shop. Time changes everything. Have you seen 13 go on 30 (or something like that, Jennifer garner i think). The movie is about similar things. Do watch it.

2. How your most wanted wish-list changes. When you were in your eight class, you always wanted to the small toy car that would work with a wireless remote. And now, you actually think about an Ikon. People have been lucky enough to be able to gift their parents a car (read chaos’s blog).

3. I dont know how many of you knew about shoes that had light!! Though I was never attracted towards them for the
“light that glows when you walk”, I was more interested in how that was happening. Now when I think about such things, makes me smile or laugh rather.

But there are still many things that never change over time. The goosebumps that you get when you get a scrap from the hottest girl in your school batch. The joy that you get when you see a kid get excited because of the new toy in the store. Or the “magical” moment when a kid is starring, with rather amazed looks, towards the lights in-front of
a shop (the diwali or chirstmas lights).

Being is a kid what, I am sure, we all miss. School was fun, too bad I passed it.

PS: Going home soon ….
PS2: when I was back home sometime back, I was walking on the road and two small girls crossed me. They didnt say

anything to me. But as soon as i passed them, one said to other “haww, kitna lamba ladka tha!!”.

You know what really bugs me when I am”orkutting”? A persons profile comes in your friends list because he logged in just now. You look at the pic of that person and you see some actors pic or even worse some landscape pic. You think, its ok, lets check his name. And, tadein   the name is as crappy as the pic itself. Names like “Not orkutting for..” or “off 2 bhopal…” or “* sucks ..”.

Why cant people have slight common sense to put up one thing normal at least. Orkut is for communicating. And not putting your own pic and your name isnt going to help in that. Its something like you want someone to call you back and you dont give him your name or number. Or as they normally show in Readers Digest. They show a small signature sort of thing and then write “Can you read this? Neither can we. So please write your name and addr. properly when requesting for an address change.”

Anyway, other news ..

Office work again came to an halt. Am not in a mood to work now a days. Will do when it becomes  urgent.

Flat mates are cool. Other important people are also good.

Its so good to know that you will be going home in sometime. Going home .. ah, those warm lazy afternoons, eventful yet so easy evenings, tasty and fingerlickingly awesome food. Those cool evening drives in the car, those josh filled moments with friends, that rejuvinating and lasting chase behind girls. How good it is to go home.

Diwali marks another big and eventful time for me. Its a festival of light, going by the defination. For me its a festival of rediscovering my childhood. How? Well, I have always been a big fan of the firecrackers and all the things you can do with it. From blowing up the cardboard boxes to making the bricks fly in air. And another recent weird experiment was to check the penetration power of the behind (he he) of a bullet bomb. It was pretty depressing to see that thing go through 3 layers to thin cardboard (box of the bomb itself). Now I know why people are so scared of that.

Diwali is also about the pooja at home. Probably one of the very few times when my entire family is together in front of the small mandir that my mom has put up. Though, only my mommy dearest is the only one singing the prayers, its still good to add your own voice to one or two lines and then to see your brother look at you and grin.

Diwali also means meeting old time friends again. Something I guess not many are lucky enough to have. School reunion talks are also in air, so I guess thats something that I will be looking forward too.

All in all, diwali is more than a festival of light. Its a festival of love and memories for me.

Happy Diwali to all in advance. And a happy dussera (belated)

Past few days ..

October 3, 2006

They have been good. One of the many good ones I can say.

1. There was a Batch-Mail-War going on. Sadly it lasted for only 2 days and 280+ mails being exchanged. It was nice to see that the batch spirit is still there. As someone pointed it out there were 10-12 *big* companies involved in the spam war. Wont reveal the names here, because that might make them lose their jobs :D .

Some of the surprises of the mail-war:

a. Gyan Ranjan was taking part in a batch activity!!!

b. Maximum mails were sent by chaos, stewie and playboi.

c. Not many girls took part, as expected.

2. Had a nice long weekend.  No details about that one right now.

3. For some reason I am missing my college a lot. College and school. Saw pics of some old school time friends and became nostalgic. Good that I am going home this diwali. Will meet lots of friends there. Hope I will have a nice time there.

other news..?

Job is going great. At flat too things are going good. Bought a new cell, its cool. My first major “kharcha” on myself since I joined.

Pyar ke Side effect and Khosle ka Ghosla are must watch. Do go and watch them.
